Product Description
Percy Bear AKG C12 Vintage Microphone for sale.
The capsule was re-skinned by Siegfried Thiersch in May 2019 (invoice included in sale) and the microphone has not been used since.
It sounds as wonderful as you would expect for what is very similar to an original AKG C12.
When AKG ceased production of the C12 in the early 70s, the technician who'd been making them had enough parts from stereo C24s to make a handful of these and did so under the name ‘Percy Bear’. While not identical to an early C12 they clearly share much of the same DNA.
Will Gregory uses one for Goldfrapp recordings and says in his 2013 Sound On Sound interview:

"There was a man who worked at AKG who came away with a lot of C24s, which is a stereo C12, and he chopped them in half and made a load of these things he called Percy Bears,” explains Will. "I think they sound pretty much like the C12.”
