Product Description
Roland PA-60 mono six channel mixer for sale in excellent condition and superb working order following a full overhaul by our techs.
We love old Roland PA mixers but this early model from the 70s is harder to come by than the others, especially in such good condition (they are almost always very worn indeed). It has a particularly satisfying and rich distortion when driven harder. The onboard EQ is great for broad tonal shaping, onboard Space Echo spring tank with send - or the option to send/return to
With a similar pedigree as the later Boss KM mixers with all discrete channel circuitry, these sound unlike anything built today.
Why would I want a mono mixer rather than stereo? I hear you ask. It may seem a backwards step to be even thinking of using a mono mixer when so many modern machines have stereo outputs, but suspend your disbelief. These sound great, and mono stems and effects can be surprisingly powerful, especially today. There’s something in the summing that really makes things pop and gives beats and synths some extra oomph and of course there’s the sound of the Space Echo spring tank (which seems to sound better in these mixers). You can always either add stereo effects and treatments in your DAW or in hardware after the output of the PA-60. Some of my favourite Soundgas sessions have been created with a drum machine, echo, and one of these old mono mixers.
No need to use the internal amps to drive speakers - you just use the mono line out. The combination of the EQ, built-in spring reverb and effect send, plus the build/component quality, makes this great and versatile analogue a winner - the sound is effortlessly great. Of course, there’s a lot of good stuff happening if you overdrive the inputs with synths, drum machines, drums or outputs from your DAW.
Service work undertaken:
* recapped mains smoother caps and serviced PSU (re-purposed old cans for period correct look)
* recapped power amp
* cleaned pots, sockets and switches
* reverb tank service
* Converted to 120V, installed new mains cable
* Re-wired PSU and removed power outlet
