Product Description

The Weaver is a brilliant new device from Fieldtone Instruments - who are behind the wonderful Box Of Uncertainty.

It is a wild handheld sampler that creates all kinds of crazy and mostly unpredictable rhythms, drones and textures. I've been using protoypes for many months now and absolutely love it. It's utterly addictive and beguiling (unless you're the sort of person who needs absolute control over everything. This is the opposite of that. serependipity in a small box. Happy accidents. Weirdness, glitches and lots of wonk.

Sounds can be captured by either the built in microphone or the 3.5mm line input (mono), the latter disables the microphone when plugged in.

Sample time is fixed at two seconds. The amount of rhythms, loops and possible outcomes of that two seconds is infinite - every time you move the knob the parameters are randomised and a new loop presents itself. There is no undo switch, there is no going back. The only other control is the ability to switch between a textural or rhythmic output.

In Rhythm mode the Weaver can be externally synced as a slave device via control voltage clock. The Weaver is looking for a sync CV of +5v supplied via 3.5mm jack (standard modular patch cable).

The Weaver outputs as stereo, with plenty of spatial movement in its character. The 3.5mm jack output is able to supply headphones directly for portability as well as plugged into line level inputs.

The device is powered by 9v centre negative (standard boss pedal style) DC power supply (not included) or by a 9v battery for use in the field. An alkaline battery will give around 2.5 hours of continuous usage, a rechargeable lithium-ion battery 3-4 hours. Please use rechargeable batteries where possible.

Available in Forest Green and Dusty Pink.

Ohh woh ohh woh ddddddream WEAVER! love this unique effects unit. The random aspect is its real beauty. I’ve already landed on great ideas for loops and bits to drop into tracks. Not tried the clock sync yet. Build quality is solid. It’s just a lovely thing. Got my eye on the Box of Uncertainty now!

Awesome!

I’ve no idea what this little magic box is doing, but it’s endless amounts of enjoyment, finding random patterns and inspiring sounds, just by turning one knob. Tremendous stuff!

Endless fun!

Hundreds of musical and rhythmic starting points instantly. Just have a recording device handy.

Particularly magical on rhythm mode

It's amazing how quickly one can generate an exciting rhythm element from this little box by playing pretty much anything into it. I've been searching for years for "glitch" rhythmic elements that are engaging and fresh but not overbearing - The Weaver delivers that in spades. I can certainly see using it on lots of projects in the future. The "in fairness" part of the review: I wasn't excited about the slightly wobbly 3.5mm input and output jacks. For my setup I would have preferred sturdier 1/4 inch I/O, even if that meant a bigger box. But or setups that need a small footprint this is probably perfect.

Wonky joy!

This wonderful box needs sampling so much! I assumed I'd be more interested in the rhythmic setting, but texture is so good too! There's subtle modulation and panning going on, it's brilliant at wonky goodness! Can't wait to try and record it into clips on into the 1010 Music BlackBox and loop it live. Soundgas were great with updates on delivery too. Get one if Fieldtone do another batch.
