ELECTRO-HARMONIX POLY PHASE
ELECTRO-HARMONIX POLY PHASE
Brand: Electro Harmonix
Sorry it's gone. We may have another in stock or on the way. Please enquire below (or check our weekly Gear Update for incoming rarities).
An original Electro Harmonix Poly Phase pedal for sale serviced and in excellent working order.
Not to be confused with the reissue of the same name, this is the real deal: manufactured from 1979 to 1981, these pedals are extremely rare and highly sought-after.
There are scuffs, scratches and oxidation to the casing and paintwork and some rust spots on the jacks and screws (please see the detailed photos).
It's a wonderful-sounding phaser and with the envelope options, a pretty unique one too. Scroll down for a review and demo of this pedal from Fenderrhodes.com
It's a UK 240v model so will need a step-up transformer for USA/Canada.
We get rare EHx pedals regularly – follow us on social media, and sign up for our email list if you want to find out about incoming gear first.
Electro-Harmonix Poly Phase review from Fenderrhodes.com
This is an AC powered 6-stage phaser with two totally different sections. One is an ordinary phaser with speed & feedback adjustment, the other an envelope-controlled phase stage with modulation capabilities.
It has five knobs and one slide switch. In Sweep mode, only the feedback & speed knobs function. In Env mode, the feedback, env-sensitivity, env-mod & mod-speed knobs function. In this switch position, the phase stage is controlled by the input signal. The harder you hit, the more the phase sound is swept to higher frequencies. It takes some time to get your favourite sensitivity setting, but once you have it, it's easy to reset because of the fine knobplate marking.
This unit has two outputs: one carries the dry signal, the other is switched from effect to bypass via the stomp switch. Both speed knobs cover a wide speed range, so everything from slow phase to Leslie-like sound is possible. When feedback is turned up the sound gets a little hissy, but this quite normal. Sound-wise, this unit is just like EH Small Stone, EH Q-Tron and MXR Phase 100 thrown together in one pedal :-). To my ear one of the top three phasers for Rhodes.
On the MP3 Rhodes/Poly Phase demo you first hear the Sweep mode with different speed and feedback settings. The second half shows the Env mode at different feedback levels. On the last riff, the separate modulation section is added to the envelope sweep.

Please be aware that this is a vintage pedal and may not be as clean-sounding as modern boutique and digital units; with many vintage EH pedals (depending on the instrument it's used with and the signal chain) some volume drop can occur when the effect is engaged; this can often be solved by putting a buffered (ie Boss type) pedal before it in the signal chain (bypassed).
