Product Description
One of several items we are auctioning on behalf of Ed O'Brien (Radiohead/EOB). All items will have provenance supplied after the sale, have been tested by us and are in full working order (many were originally serviced and supplied by us).
10% of the gross proceeds will be split between two humanitarian relief charities. More information below.
This Binson Echorec P.E.603-T was purchased from us several years ago and Ed used it extensively on his solo EOB album “Earth”which was released in 2020 (along with the Korg SE-300 Stage Echo we are also auctioning).
It is for sale in excellent working order following a health check from our techs and is covered by our guarantee that it will be delivered in excellent working order.
Originally serviced for us by an experienced tech and modified with varispeed, this unit featured on That Pedal Show's first ever encounter with a real Echorec, and lead to Ed and Flood visiting the Soundgas Studio to collect it and a few other pieces to use during recordings for the EOB album.
This model is essentially a valve Echorec 2 T7E in a rugged metal case with more flexible switching options. The 603 allows any head to be switched to replay or regeneration, giving the user access to a wide range of multiple and scatter echoes. It will go into self-oscillation very swiftly on certain settings if required (this can be adjusted via the internal trimpot for more subtle or extreme effects, but it's been set-up for optimum performance) and it's capable of all sorts of cosmic noises. The repeats are not hifi - this is after all 50+ year-old technology, but nothing sounds like a good valve Echorec.
We ensure that our Binson customers get a machine in top operational condition which should give many years good service. We have many satisfied Binson customers worldwide and guarantee complete satisfaction.
Shipping charged at our standard rates - get in touch if you need more information.
VARISPEED: The Varispeed Motor offers the full functionality of a standard Binson but with the advantage of being able to tempo match the repeats. Binsons have fixed-speed motors which will run fast in the USA (unless they are specific export models) due to the different mains frequency, which is something Pink Floyd discovered on the eve of their first US tour. The tempo of their songs was determined by the Echorecs’ repeat patterns so their tech spent a sleepless night moving all the heads to compensate.
Note that the varispeed control is on the rear (the red knob in the photos), however we were asked to make it possible to operate from the front so this unit also comes with a varispeed remote which plugs into a socket on the unit.
