PRODUCT DESCRIPTION

For sale we have one of the finest envelope filter pedals ever made, the Ibanez AF-201 Auto Filter. Part of the highly-collectible series that featured the legendary TS-808 Tube Screamer, this isn’t an easy pedal to track down. As a result, it’s something of a well-kept secret when compared to its more famous relations…Made in Japan in 1981 by Maxon under licence for Ibanez, this is a high quality analogue envelope filter in the grand tradition of the Mu-tron III, the sound of which this pedal at times closely emulates.

This is a great analogue envelope filter (auto-wah) with that wonderful Japanese build quality and attention to detail – made in an era when quality was more important than cost, which is why so few reissue pedals sounds as good as their predecessors.

It is in excellent cosmetic condition with only very minor chips and scratches (see photos below) and is in perfect working order. It’s fitted with a new Duracell Procell battery and ready to play.
It sounds huge, fat and glorious – whatever you choose to ooze through it: guitar, bass or keys, it exhibits pure bona fide funk credentials. As with the Mu-tron III, this is the real deal.
Guitars, bass, Rhodes, synths, clavinet – all work well with this pedal – it instantly transports you back in time (sonically-speaking) and works its analogue magic on digital sources breathing warmth and life into soft synths and samples. This pedal is what my reamping box was made for.

There’s further information on the AF-201 and a good audio demo here.

Below is an excellent demo from YouTube featuring the Maxon-badged version of this pedal which is identical sonically (with thanks to the uploader)
