Roland Echo Servicing.

We have service slots!

As of November 2022 we are able to take a limited number of Roland echoes in for servicing.

Please read all the info below and then, if you wish to proceed, follow the link and fill out the form to secure your place.

Looking for info about getting other gear serviced? Head to our FAQ.

A few points to note:

  1. This is primarily for machines located in the UK.
  2. Servicing machines from outside the UK can only be done if the owner takes on all responsibility for shipping and customs admin.
  3. Pricing is for RE-101, 201 and 150 only. Parts for the 301, 501 and 555 are hard to find so all work on those can only be quoted after assessment.
  4. Slots are very limited – initially there will just be a few machines taken each month and booking no more than 3 months ahead.
  5. If your echo was purchased (by you) from Soundgas then we will always make space for whatever it needs and pricing for some of the work should be lower.

PRICING for RE-101, RE-201 and RE-150

This covers the main points. There’s lots more detail below but you don’t need to read all that to get going! Note that all prices will have 20% VAT added in the UK.

INITIAL CHARGE (paid in advance): £350+VAT

  • Includes a non-refundable deposit of £250 per machine to cover shipping, assessment and admin.
  • The service includes a 12 month warranty with certificate, new tape, plus return shipping. Full details of what’s included below.

MULTIPLE MACHINES: If you have more than one machine, and can ship them together, then additional units will be discounted by £50 (unless another discount has already been applied).

ADDITIONAL CHARGES (more info about these below):

Unless your machine has been serviced fairly recently and to a high standard it is likely that it will take more work to get to its best. Charges may be:

£150-£300 – essential and/or optional work or parts to improve the functioning of your machine
£400 – fitting of a brand new motor. Depending on the initial assessment a motor may be essential, or we may be able to get your machine as good as it can be with the motor it has and can then advise on whether further improvements are possible.

READY TO GO?

If you’re ready to proceed then please fill out this form and we will tell you what service slots we have available and may request additional information about your machine.

Once payment has been made, you can ship your machine to us – see below for info on that also.

Payment of the deposit indicates that you agree to all the terms and conditions on this page.

Any questions, please do not hesitate to get in touch.

Packing and shipping your echo to us:

For UK machines we have included insured return DPD shipping in our pricing.

Please make sure you include a covering note including your name and address. We are not responsible for the fate of anonymous echoes that arrive in our busy workshop.

Take care with packing – shipping the item to us is at your risk and can’t claim on our shipping insurance if the packaging is at fault. We strongly recommend that you read the info on how to pack on our site here.

If you’d rather organise and pay for shipping yourself, or deliver your machine in person, please get in touch for adjusted pricing.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

What is included in a “service”?
The initial service includes cleaning the machine including all pots, switches, sockets, heads and internal surfaces. In addition we will fit one of our new tapes, and felts will be cleaned or replaced as required. Finally we will calibrate and set up to factory spec. However all of this is within the limitations of the machine in terms of motor function and wear and tear on parts. What we are doing is getting your machine to a point where further improvements – if possible – will require either replacement parts or deeper work. We will then provide an assessment with our recommendations.

All our machines come with a certificate so you can prove we worked on it in the event that you sell it.

What about extra work?
If the machine requires more than a basic service, a further charge for parts/time will be incurred. We will inform you following our initial assessment and service and advise any additional costs payable prior to the completion of the work. Some things may not be optional for your machine to function well enough to use, others may be ways of further improving the echo.

Examples of things that this can include are head-relapping (worth doing if the machine has potential to be really good), replacing a worn selector or other controls, a new pinch roller (this is often required if the old rubber has gone hard). A new Echo Fix motor may also be either essential (if the old motor cannot be made to run well enough), or optional to bring the machine up to a higher standard – this is the largest additional expense at £400.

And finally, you may want the main transformer changing – this can usually be done as an extra.

Warranty:
This is included in the service cost and covers the parts of the machine worked on for 12 months. In the event that something we did not service (e.g. motor, reverb etc) subsequently fails then this will not be covered, however we will do all we can to organise a quick repair. Warranty is strictly non-transferable if the machine is sold, and does not cover machines that are used for gigging (although once again, if you get a problem we will of course do our best to deal with it as quickly as cost-effectively as possible).

Tape:
We will fit one of our own tape loops and ensure your machine is correctly biased to use it (which will also allow use of original Roland tape and those from Echo Fix). Our tape is the best: read more about why this is. Installing any tape other than that supplied by Echo Fix or us will invalidate any warranty.

How quick is the service?
We will aim to have your machine back to you within three to four weeks of arrival, although it may well be sooner. If you want a quick turnaround that may be possible but we need to know BEFORE you send your machine.

What if I miss my service slot?
That’s no problem. Just let us know and we will let you know when the next available slot is that we can receive your machine.

Can you service any machine no matter what condition?
No. This service is intended for machines that are operational (or have been up until relatively recently): this is not for basket cases or excessively-worn units. Machines we deem beyond economic repair will be returned and the £250 assessment deposit retained, or part-exchange may be offered. If your machine is non-functional or has not run for a significant length of time please contact us to discuss. Part exchange on machines that we can use for parts may be possible depending on condition.

Return shipping
Insured/tracked return shipping is included in the service price*. IMPORTANT: we cannot store machines here for more than 2 weeks once they are ready. If for any reason you are not able to receive your machine back within that time we will need to invoice for storage at a rate of £10+VAT per week or part thereof.
