Changes to Shipping to the USA from the UK - What Soundgas Customers Need to Know
From 29 August 2025, the US removed its $800 duty-free threshold for commercial imports. This only affects items under $800 in value. Higher-value gear is unaffected.
This appears to have not impacted shipping to the USA in any meaningful way - import fees of around 10% are applied by the carriers and shipments are getting through quickly.
What is Changing
Until now, most UK exports to the US valued under $800 (approx. £590) could enter quickly with minimal customs paperwork and no duties. From 29 August, that exemption ends:
-
All shipments, regardless of value, will now face tariffs and full customs clearance.
The Soundgas Approach
We have seen this kind of disruption before, most notably during Brexit, when sweeping rules were introduced without much consideration of how things work in practice. Our advice, based on experience, is simple:
-
All is well - this was not like Brexit and the carriers and shipping services are running smoothly
FAQs
I was expecting a preorder delivery from you - what should I do?
Nothing. Your order will ship when ready.
I would like to order something but I am concerned about delivery - should I wait?
You can order as usual: this has not impacted shipping.
Will I have to pay extra on delivery?
Possibly. It depends on the item’s value and country of origin. When 10% tariffs on UK goods were introduced previously, we reduced our prices to offset that cost. So you may be asked for an additional import tax (collected on behalf of the US Government by carriers).
Will my delivery be delayed?
No
In Summary
This has not impacted delivery times, but lower value items may be subject to additional import charges. Contact us if in any doubt.
