A rare, hand-built Wallace bass amp - serviced and sounding stunning.

It doesn't have a model number on it but it bears more than a passing resemblance to the
Wallace AC 2000 XT MkIII that we sold last year. It's definitely of the same pedigree with a similar internal layout and the "XT Gain" control. The lack of a model number on the front panel is consistent with it being an early version, dating from the mid-late 60s.

Serviced by Nick Perry of Raw State, Bath, England - it has had a full re-valve using JJs valves (originals not present alas).

Wattage - the seller says it tested at 31W which would fit with the model and era.

We've had a few of these amps through now (including an AC 2000 that is now permanently resident in the studio) and, like all the ones we've heard, this one sounds very good indeed. It's no wonder that these relatively unknown amps are jealously guarded by their owners and rarely come up for sale.

Wallace amps were a well-kept secret in the 60s and 70s - favoured by session players for their high build quality, great sound and lack of hum - they were used by John Paul Jones and Jimmy Page among others.

It's easy to see why- excellent tone-shaping options make it easy to dial in the sound you're looking for - this amp just sounds great with guitar or bass.

Condition is very good - minor signs of age and a few marks on the covering and the handle is broken in the middle of the spine (still functional but noticeable when you pick the amp up).

Features switchable impedance: 4, 8 or 16 ohms.

Switchable voltage for use anywhere in the world.

If you want to know a bit more about the history of these amps then this Wallace article from Guitarist Magazine is a good place to start.

Commission sale item. If you have gear that you want us to look at selling on your behalf then please look at our Commission & Consignment page for more information and get in touch to discuss your requirements.
