Ok, own up - who remembers standing in front of their bedroom mirror with one of these, practising the moves and playing along with Hank on the Dansette? It's not quite Hank Marvin's red Strat, and it certainly wouldn't ever have played like it, but it does look the part. This is a collector's item - an all-original (as far as we can tell) Vox Shadow guitar: manufactured circa 1963 to cater to the demands of all the Hank Marvin wannabes who couldn't afford a real Fender… Chrome hardware, red paintwork, Strat-style body, white pick guard, the essential tremolo arm - every Shadows fan's dream come true? Not if you notice the shockingly-thin plywood body - it doesn't feel like a strat, but the neck's sort of ok. There's some bowing with age that suggests this should be either a wall decoration or a slide guitar - you'll certainly not be running up and down this fretboard, but then everyone can afford a Strat of some sort nowadays, but not everyone will have one of these.
We can supply a Binson Echorec and sixties Vox amp to accompany this if required.
Please see the photos to assess the condition - ask any questions before bidding if you're in any doubt .
We have described this guitar as accurately as possible, and welcome any observations concerning it's history/originality.
The 1962 Vox catalogue had the following to say:
"A new moderately priced guitar with a fine specification of two slim-line pick-ups and a roller bearing smooth action tremolo unit. Single side machine heads, polished slim hardwood reinforced neck. Separate tone and volume controls. Rosewood fingerboard."
