This Pro-One has undergone a comprehensive restoration by a well-respected synth tech, bringing it up to modern studio performance standards and ensuring reliable operation while retaining all the rich, vintage character that has made the Pro-One a staple in synth collections and classic recordings for over 40 years. From its dual Curtis oscillators and legendary filter to its punchy envelopes and deep modulation capabilities, this synth is pure analogue power in a compact, performance-friendly format.
As noted in Paul Ward’s Sound On Sound article (March 1994), the Pro-One was “essentially one voice of a Prophet-5, with near-identical sound creation abilities.” Seen at the time as a more accessible alternative to the Minimoog, it shared much of its sonic architecture with Moog instruments – hardly surprising, as the brief for the Prophet-5 itself was reportedly to create a polyphonic Minimoog. The Pro-One distilled that vision into a portable, affordable, and hugely influential monophonic synth.
The original keyboard assemblies on early Pro-Ones are notoriously prone to faults – this unit now features a brand new Fatar keybed, offering vastly improved feel and long-term durability. The addition of a professionally-installed Kenton MIDI retrofit ensures seamless integration into modern DAW-based or MIDI-controlled setups, while preserving the 100% analogue signal path and hands-on performance experience.
