Serviced, modded and ready to ship.
Modified and expanded Roland TR-707 Rhythm Composer for sale with exclusive Soundgas HKA mod.
Stunning condition and in an original box with Japanese manuals and power supply.
The year is 1985 and you open your brand new state of the art Roland TR-707 to find not only does it have the sounds of a 727 onboard, but also a TR-808 and 909, plus a selection of other hallowed preset machines (CR-78, Keio Minipops, Elka Drummer One etc).
Welcome to this HKA/Soundgas modded 707 which is now available, boxed and ready for action following a full overhaul by our techs.
The extra sound banks in this machine, its compact size and flexible feature set that encourages hands on performance make this 707 a perfect choice for those wishing to integrate vintage hardware into their recording or live performances.
Supplied freshly serviced and modified with extra voice EPROM expansion from HKA Design, but for this one we’ve added four banks (of the eight) with our own sounds – an idiosyncratic selection culled from some of our favourite drum machines by our wizard synth tech, Chris.
This non-invasive, reversible mod allows switching between eight banks of sounds (it still operates exactly as a stock 707 at power up). Featuring new drum sounds in each kit. The last two sounds (707 crash + ride or 727 quijada + chime) remain the same across all banks, as they are stored on their own ROMs. The banks included are:
TR-707
TR-727
TR-808
TR-909
Soundgas Roland CR/TR (CR-78 & TR-66) – hear the first demo of this bank
Soundgas Korg favourites (KR-55 & Mini Pops 7)
Soundgas Elka/Maestro (Drummer One meets Rhythm King)
Soundgas Toy Box (Mattell + Casio)
All sounds are extracted from our own machines. Note that the limitations of the EPROM storage mean samples must be short and punchy (hence the cymbals having their own EPROM). This affects the choice of sounds to include, and also means you won’t get a deep booming 808 kick but the carefully chosen sounds really work in this machine: it’s a firm favourite here at Soundgas.
Banks can be switched by holding down one of the first 8 step keys while powering up. The setting is remembered and will be recalled the next time it’s turned on. There are no modifications to the outside of the machine, and the installation is easily reversible.
Covered by our usual warranty.
The TR-707 has 15 sampled drum sounds with 10-voice polyphony featuring Bass Drum, Snare Drum, Low Tom, Mid Tom, Hi Tom, Rimshot, Cowbell, Hand Clap, Tambourine, Hi-Hat (Closed or Open), Cymbal (Crash or Ride), plus Accent.
The TR-707 provides four levels of shuffle that operate globally as well as flam. There are 64 user programmable patterns, which can be edited via step or tap write and sequenced. Onboard pattern and track storage can be augmented via an optional memory cartridge.
One standout feature of the TR-707 is its ability to synchronize via both MIDI and DIN sync. The Rimshot output can be used to trigger other synths/hardware (including modular) that accept a voltage pulse.
The individual volume sliders and output jacks for each instrument further add to the 707’s enduring appeal and make it a solid choice for those wishing to treat individual sounds further during recording/mixing.
POWER: These take a 12V Centre Negative power supply (not included but easy to source).
