Released in 1978, the CR-78 was among the first drum machines to offer user-programmable patterns alongside its 34 preset rhythms, including waltz, bossa nova, and rhumba. Its analogue percussion voices—such as bass drum, snare, hi-hat, and congas—have been featured in numerous notable recordings.

Artists like Phil Collins utilised the CR-78 in tracks like "In the Air Tonight," where its distinctive drum sounds contribute to the song's atmospheric intro. Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Dark employed it in "Enola Gay," adding to the track's electronic rhythm foundation. Additionally, Blondie's "Heart of Glass" features the CR-78, providing the song's characteristic beat. And of course, John Foxx's Metamatic.

Voltage Information

100v Japanese model. For customers on 220/240v supplies we will supply a high quality step-down transformer free of charge with your purchase - let us know if this is not required. On North American mains (115/120v supplies) this unit will run without a transformer (we run all our tests using 120v power); however, a step-down transformer is recommended for extended use. We do not recommend using cheap, generic Chinese mains transformers - please ask if you have any questions about powering this unit.
