Keio Minipops MP-7 - SN 50438
Keio Minipops MP-7 - serviced vintage analogue drum machine - stock photo used
For sale: a fully serviced Keio Minipops MP-7 analogue drum machine, in excellent working order and ready to ship. Produced in Japan in the early 1970s by Keio Electronic Laboratories – the company that would later become Korg – the MP-7 is a true classic of the wooden box era of rhythm machines.
Renowned for its warm, punchy analogue drum sounds and unique character, the MP-7 features discrete analogue circuitry and instantly recognisable percussion voices – including the famously woody Quijada and Guiro. It delivers a sound that remains distinctive among early drum machines and continues to be sought after by producers and electronic musicians.
The MP-7 includes 20 built-in rhythm patterns, such as bossa nova, rumba, and rock variations. Multiple rhythms can be combined by carefully pressing more than one selector button at once – greatly expanding its rhythmic possibilities. This feature was famously used by Jean-Michel Jarre on his 1976 album Oxygène, combining presets to create complex and layered beats:
-
Oxygène 2 and Oxygène 4: Beguine + Slow Rock
-
Oxygène 6: Rumba + Bossanova
-
Équinoxe: Rock 1
