Gibson Explorer GA-18 for sale.

Stunning vintage US valve/tube amp dating from the 60s.

Needed a chunk of work from our valve amp tech but is now singing sweetly. Details below

Clean all pots, sockets and switches
Test all valves
2x 6V6GT (TAD)
Replace cathode caps 2x 22uF 25V axial
Remove original dual-section can capacitor; tidy up capacitors
Power supply cap 22uF 500V axial
Replace cathode resistor 470ohm 5W
PAT test

Notes:
This has of course has a 240V mains transformer fitted, and a sensible three core mains cable fitted.
Valves: Brimar DZ34 rectifier OK; Fender branded 12AX7s OK; 6V6s new pair fitted.

One thing to pint out is that the Weber speaker that has been fitted is quite large and there is very little
clearance between this and one of the 6V6s. I have bent the chassis as best I can to straighten it, but
as it’s only secured with two bolts it has a tendency to bend back under the weight of the ironwork. It
does sound great with this speaker, though, was a good choice.

Condition

In good condition for its age, although showing expected signs of wear. The casing has been cleaned and treated but is showing marks from damp damage particularly on the right side. Please see photos or get in touch if you require more information.
