Offered for sale is this amazing vintage EH Big Muff Pi pedal in perfect working order.
This is version 4 of the Op Amp Big Muffs with the EH1322 board - Smashing Pumpkins' Billy Corgan famously used a v4 Op Amp Big Muff - the pot codes are 1978 making this little beauty over 30 years old.
It has very few scuffs and scratches for a 36 year-old pedal (see detailed photos below). Mojo aplenty, made in USA, built like a tank and sounding fantastic. Sonically the V4 is similar to the V3 Big Muff - the classic Muff sound, but is very ballsy - more mid-scoop and bigger bottom maybe - the Tone Bypass option (bypasses the tone circuit - not 'true bypass') is good for more aggressive, raw-sounding fuzz; there's bags of sustain and gain to be had.
t can be powered by a 9v battery (new Procell included) or EH power supply (not included and untested with psu).
These vintage op-amp units sound far superior to the reissues in our opinion: this just oozes class and filth - try it on guitars, bass, keys - it makes synths sound incredible...
This is a vintage pedal in good working order: please do not expect modern digital-era perfection.
Here's what Kit Rae says about the Op Amp Big Muff Sound in his definitive history of the Big Muff:
This is a great distortion pedal with a big sound and much of the same scooped mids character of the previous transistor versions... the op-amps are great for crushing, grungier, wall of sound material, heavy distorted rhythm playing, and heavy leads. They have a very deep crunch, flat mids, and superb deep bass control."
