Roland Jupiter-8

This is truly a rarity: a Jupiter 8 in stunning condition. Purchased from the second owner who had carefully cherished it for nearly four decades: always returning it to its custom built case after occasional use. If it were a classic car, it’d be described as being in concours condition.

When we’re told that someone has a ‘mint’ synth, we always prepare for disappointment. The definition is subjective. We only use the word ‘mint’ to describe something that has absolutely zero signs of age: factory fresh/unused. The original owner of this Jupiter did use it – for a year, before his pregnant partner suggested that he seek a more reliable source of income – and the current owner has played it occasionally since, so it could not be, by our strict definition, mint. Except when the owner brought it to us and Tony opened the case, he had to admit that this one comes as close to that term for a used Jupiter 8 as he’s yet seen.

Some of the photos in the gallery were taken by Tony when it arrived (no dusting or cleaning performed) so you can clearly see how stunning it is. We’ve never seen a Jupiter 8 screen in such pristine condition, nor the orange paintwork with original glossy sheen. There’s some discolouration to the white buttons, and the keys show that this has been played, but it really is unusually good. Maybe there are a handful of other unused/cased examples out there that could claim to be in better condition, but this has to be amongst the best in the world.
