Valve (tube) Binson with Super-Slow Varispeed & wet only output mod. Working well and sounding very good following an extensive rebuild.
It has been serviced and restored and will be supplied with the Soundgas seal of approval. Undergoing final testing. We will ship this only when we’re satisfied that it performs to our high standards. Shipping could be up to 6 weeks after ordering.
Valve/tube Binson Echorec B2 (Baby 2) with super slow varispeed motor and wet-only output. This may not be the prettiest machine out there, but it’s full of character and gritty warmth – we’ve been enjoying using it during the restoration testing period.
Working very well and sounding excellent following an extensive rebuild. Additional wet-only output mod on channel 3 for mix/effects loop use (can be used simultaneously with the mix output). Undergoing final testing/adjustments. We will ship this only when we’re satisfied that it performs to our high standards.
Full restoration with varispeed and wet-only output mod (on output 3) performed by our echo tech, Dr Huw. This machine features a Super-Slow Varispeed Motor offering the full functionality of a standard Binson but with the advantage of being able to tempo match the repeats. The super-slow varispeed motor option offers the full functionality of regular speed uses, but with additional super-slow speeds for longer, darker, dirtier repeats. This can get properly gnarly when pushed into distortion at slow speed – it should be noted that at the slowest speeds very little fidelity or feedback happens – this is more for special effects rather than regular echo use.
It will ship within 3-6 weeks of purchase once final testing/tweaking has been completed; “there’s no rushing a Binson” as someone once said (OK, it was us, but it’s true).
Our Binsons (especially valve T7E units) sell very quickly, usually before we can get them listed – it’s unusual for us to have a completed machine like this available. If you are interested in getting one of these machines serviced and set up to our exacting standards then please get in touch to reserve one **
Excellent overall condition with some minor scuffing around the edges of the case. Please note that this unit does not come with a metal lid and the rear cover is not original. See photos for more information on cosmetic condition (taken during/before servicing so no oil bottle shown – one is included). This machine is all about the sound/tone.
Switchable voltage for use anywhere in the world - it will be set up ready for you to use before we ship.
For sales in UK/EU the price will include 20% VAT. VAT-free sales are possible to businesses and individuals in the EU (outside the UK) with a valid VAT Number - please get in touch if you wish to buy this way.
First demo is another B2 in action, followed by a T7E we sold recently.
Naturally, the axe-slingers amongst you will be drooling over the way these machines languidly exude classic Dave Gilmour/Pink Floyd timbres, but we’re hot under the collar about the way these react to abuse: feed it a hot signal from a drum machine, crank up the input gain and swoon at the rich creamy tube overdrive and filthy distortion on the repeats.
Binson Echorecs have been our obsession for many years. They are amazingly engineered machines: where a tape echo’s input sound is recorded to tape, on a Binson it is recorded onto a circular spinning disc which has replay heads positioned around it.
Every Echorec we sell is the product of an accumulation of hundreds of hours spent dismantling, rebuilding, tweaking and listening to them. The distance between a “good” Binson and a truly “great” one may only be short in terms of functioning (how many people tell us they’ve got a Binson from somewhere that is “90% there…”); but in our experience they can be a world apart in terms of the time, patience and experience required to get to that ultimate goal.

If a standard Echorec was considered adequate for Barrett, Gilmour, and Page, why would you modify a vintage Echorec with a variable speed motor?
