AudioScape 260 VU Compressor/Limiter

Effortlessly suited for mixing/tracking duties just as well as it is for complete smack and punch to anything it embraces. All the while adding that 70’s vibe, imbuing unique midrange girth and allowing complete control over unruly dynamics through it’s novel use of the RMS-based detector circuit that hears like the ‘human ear’; which have a sound unlike any other compression topology out there.

It’s amazing on any percussive source, including many bass instruments, and it can surprise you on plenty of others, including vocals! Plus, the stereo configuration allows you to effortlessly apply this same killer punch and snap to keyboards, drum sub-groups, and even the mix buss.

The 260VU was born by starting with a very interesting request from John Kennedy years ago bugging us to bring this back, very old and vintage (some would say “archaic”) circuit for inspiration and old-school, oft forgotten design aesthetics. During the exhaustive and meticulous R & D stage of the D-Comp; trying to “modernize” the overall topology and sonics of this circuit, we were able to carve out and create something fresh and new that still retained all of the desirable, often quirky aspects of the original vintage unit.

After much anticipation; we are absolutely elated to present this special creation to the AudioScape Family (past, present and future!)

How did this come to be?

We spent well over 2 YEARS….. in the design phase alone. (Don’t even get us started on the layout, discovering and deciding on the perfect marriage of components, design aesthetics; the list goes ON and ON…..)

We’d like to give a special shout out to Matt Walton at Iron Age Audio for doing the pcb design for this product and also helping dissect and recreate the VCA for this venerable compressor. His insight and suggestions during the R&D phase really helped make this product a reality. Also, another special shoutout to our lead Mechanical Engineer Ryan Schmied for tirelessly dissecting and recreating this lovely case design, meter pushbuttons and everything else mechanically challenging on the 260VU.

You must retain the original packing materials and utilise them for any return – if this is not possible, you must return goods using packaging that matches the level of protection we employ: failure to do so may result in us refusing the return.

Goods must be returned in the same condition as supplied to remain eligible for a full refund. Important: in the case of new items, they must also be in the original packaging which, aside from any seals etc, must also be in mint condition (please take care with this); we reserve the right to charge a restocking fee of up to 25% if this is not adhered to.
