EMS Synthi AKS

Detailed assessment to follow. It was serviced by EMS Cornwall around 15 years ago, so while it’s not perfect (a little crackle from some pots/connectors this morning) it’s in very useable vintage condition. The buyer has the option of taking it as it is at a lower price, or it can be sent to our favourite EMS specialist for a full overhaul. While this is taking place, the buyer will have the option to specify any modifications they may require.

Delivery time will depend on the service schedule and on the buyer’s choice of modifications.

If the full overhaul is specified, everything will be done to ensure this synth is in excellent order functionally. As it stands, it’s a vintage Synthi that’s been serviced and modified by EMS in the past so is working well, but some foibles may be encountered. We take the view that servicing on these units should be sympathetic – recapping where necessary, but also keeping as many original parts in the audio path to retain character, even if it results in occasional minor flaws. We’ve seen some restored to the point where they become a little too predictable, which in our view is not why you want a Synthi! This one is rather fun and the excellent mods – oscillator sync and an unusual added portamento control work very well. The KS keyboard/sequencer also seems to be working without issue.

These synths should be used regularly for best performance – just like a classic car or bike needs a run out to stay in good shape.
