An exceptional valve Echorec supplied after full restoration/rebuild, super slow varispeed motor and our brand new valve buffered wet-only output mod.
The restoration is now well underway. Lead time approx 2 months. Price on application. Email or use our contact form now.
We only produce a few Binsons each year. If you want to know about the next one get in touch now.
This is a preorder listing. This Echorec is currently undergoing overhaul and modification. Shipping will be around 2-3 months from ordering.
UPDATE April 5 2022: Much progress has been made on the rebuild – see new photos added to the listing, and you can also hear a first test of the incredible wet-only mod in this demo.
We now are ready to offer this Binson Echorec 2 T7E for preorder – includes full restoration/rebuild, super slow varispeed motor and our brand new valve buffered wet-only output mod. We also have a clean Baby Binson for preorder. Given the amount of work and parts required to get them to our standard these will be the only Soundgas Binsons ready before autumn 2022.
The amount of time, parts and modifications we are putting into Binsons eclipses any found elsewhere. As well as the donor machine shown, we will be using a mint, period correct metal case, and other parts, to create a truly stunning example. We will also break another to make a good set of original 60s heads (which once relapped have superior performance to heads from later machines or new replacements).
All our machines are completely stripped of old wiring/components and rebuilt from the ground up for optimum performance. The new valve buffered wet-only output mod is our latest upgrade and offers a significant improvement in signal quality.
All this comes at a cost, but with a Soundgas Binson you truly get what you pay for – the very highest possible quality machine – as near to a new (but substantially improved/upgraded) sixties Echorec as you could wish for.
Will be supplied overhauled and working flawlessly with our super slow varispeed and wet-only modifications. All Soundgas Binson restorations are completed in house by our senior echo tech Max Dawson and come with 12 months’ warranty (UK/EU/USA/Canada only) plus lifetime tech support for our customers. Supplied complete with our Binson manual and an original case in excellent order; Tony is on hand to answer your Binson questions prior to ordering, or in the future.
Modifications:
The Super-Slow Varispeed Motor offers the full functionality of a standard Binson but with the advantage of being able to tempo match the repeats. Binsons have fixed-speed motors which will run fast in the USA (unless they are specific export models) due to the different mains frequency, which is something Pink Floyd discovered on the eve of their first US tour. The tempo of their songs was determined by the Echorecs’ repeat patterns so their tech spent a sleepless night moving all the heads to compensate. In addition to allowing tempo-matching to the song, and longer echoes (allowing a Baby Binson to achieve similar echo lengths to an Echorec 2), the super-slow motor offers the option of much longer, darker, dirtier repeats. This can get properly gnarly when pushed into distortion at slow speed. Please note that at the very slowest speeds there is very little fidelity or feedback: this should be viewed as a bonus for special effects use rather than more traditional guitar echoes. A control knob is placed on the side of the machine near the sockets for motor speed.
Wet-only output requires an extra socket (located on the side) and is for use with a mixing console or effects loop.
This shot is of the machine we will be starting with, however the case and many other parts will be swapped in order to produce a machine that functions to an exceptionally high standard, and has the looks to match. Please get in touch if you need more information.
Switchable voltage for use anywhere in the world - it will be set up ready for you to use before we ship.
For sales in UK the price will include 20% VAT. Buyers elsewhere may incur VAT or other local taxes on import.
The first two demos (808 and 303) are of this machine when originally sold. Fresh demos to follow.
The others feature previous machines we have sold, and include a great guitar video from when Dan from That Pedal Show visited the studio to try out some Echorecs.
Binson Echorecs have been our obsession for many years. They are amazingly engineered machines: where a tape echo’s input sound is recorded to tape, with a Binson it is recorded onto a circular spinning drum which has replay heads positioned around it.
Every Echorec we sell is the result of many hours spent dismantling, rebuilding, calibrating, listening, tweaking. The distance between a “good” Binson and a truly “great” one may appear to be short in purely functional terms (how many times do we hear of a Binson that is “nearly there, just needs a little extra calibration to be perfect…”); but they are a world apart in terms of the time, patience and experience required to make them function and sounds as good as is possible.
