An extraordinary piece of kit. We fell for these a few years ago. A chunk of work to get right but worth the pain for sure. Fully overhauled including all sliders. Working as it should. Sounds great.

Great with guitar and synth, but also (as can be heard below) capable of destroying beats if you find the sweet spots in the settings.
Essentially this is several of the legendary effects that Tom Oberheim designed for Maestro, all in one beautiful, super-sized unit (the scale may not be obvious from the pictures but it’s about 55cm long – the buttons are the same ones as one the classic Maestro PS-1A phaser).
In excellent working order. Fully serviced by our in-house tech; the sliders on these can become very sticky, but this one has had plenty of time spent on it cleaning and re-lubricating the slider tracks. Fully tested by us – because it’s just so good and begs to be played with – put a beat, guitar or keys through it and then just start experimenting, stacking the effects and cracking a big smile…
The demos below are quite old. Hoping this one is with us long enough to get some more 🙂
These units are rare and not well known, but as soon as we got our first one and heard it we had to track down another so we could keep one for the studio.
From left to right the effects are:
In excellent cosmetic condition with some scuffing around the edges of the case. The face is very clean with only minor signs of wear or age. See photos for more info on cosmetic condition.
For sales in UK/EU, this item is on the margin scheme for second hand goods. VAT-free sales are not possible for this item.
117/120v model. A step-down transformer is required in the UK/EU. We do not recommend using cheap generic Chinese mains transformers and can supply a high quality UK-made unit if required.
First demo is the unit for sale just after it was overhauled. Below are some of our first encounters with one of these…

Seventies excess: the Tom Oberheim-designed Maestro USS-1, or Universal Synthesizer System hails from a time when American manufacturing’s credo was ‘big is better’. Can you name any other guitar pedals that call a Mu-tron Bi-Phase half-pint? . Our ace junior tech Liam has just restored this one, including meticulously disassembling and cleaning all the sliders. Good work Liam.

Part Three showing two of the star pieces on the @soundgasltd stand at #synthfestuk: the Maestro USS-1 and Ult Sound DS-4 - driven here by the Maestro MRK-4 with Roland RE-201 on echo duties. Love this combination.1 UPDATE: just realised the Ult Sound wasn't even running for this segment - just the Maestro through the USS and 201 - 😱🙄😳

“If you are a vintage audio gear head then this is the place you have been looking for all your life. Pretty much any piece of classic or obscure kit that you are after is available here... But the clincher for me is that the gear they sell has been restored by their top techs (unless otherwise noted) which is really very important when dealing with, for example, synths from 30 years ago.”
