Iconic. Punchy as hell. So much fun.
Easily one of the best beatboxes ever made.
Serviced and ready to ship.
The Keio* Mini Pops is an iconic and unique-sounding analogue beat box, famously-used by Jean-Michel Jarre on his Oxygene album but there’s so much more mileage in one of these than a JMJ tribute.
At first glance. it’s a simple early Korg (Keio) drum machine with the usual assortment of rhythms but it has a very unique sound that has meant I have always had one in the studio. Standard preset rhythms can be modified by simultaneously pressing combinations of buttons. The “Quijada” sound is instantly-recognisable and unique to the Mini Pops. There’s something very special in these boxes and I find myself reaching for mine more than any other (possibly alongside Korg’s later KR55/55B).
This one has clearly seen some action, but they are robust little things and after a service it sounds great.
Service work included the usual replacement of failing capacitors and cleaning of sliders/pots etc. One of the switches was broken but has been seamlessly repaired by our acce tech, Chris. Note that some sliders may crackle if the unit is left unused but this will clear with a few sweeps of the slider.
*Keio was the forerunner of the mighty Korg.
Plenty of marks and signs of age. It’s also missing the cover for the rear compartment. One switch very carefully repaired. Please see photos or get in touch if you require more information on condition.
100v Japanese model - it will run on North American mains 115/120v without a transformer (we run all our tests using 120v power); however, a step-down transformer is recommended for extended use. A step-down transformer is required in the UK/EU. We do not recommend using cheap generic Chinese mains transformers and can supply a high quality UK-made unit if required.
For sales in UK the price will include 20% VAT. Buyers elsewhere may incur VAT or other local taxes on import.
Another of these being used in this Harmonizer test…
