An excellent-sounding example of an original 1960s Grampian. All the germanium distortion and reverb you could ever need.
We are producing limited numbers of our own version of the Grampian, as well as harnessing the germanium mic pre in our Type 636P and Type 636P2 units.
Original 1960s Grampian. Serviced by us and supplied with a new switchable power supply. Nobody knows these like we do. No two are alike: brimming with rich harmonic germanium distortion and vintage spring reverb.
Supplied fully overhauled by our techs, who know these units better than anyone (as we’ve now built our own version). Shipping lead time is 10-15 working days.
Grampian Type 636 for sale. These are increasingly hard to track down, and often have tricky issues to iron out – we’ve found few techs are able to make these sound as they should. This is a chance to obtain one of these remarkable units with our seal of approval.
We’re also building a few more of our modern, no-compromise take on this unit – find out more about the Soundgas Type 636 Reverb and Preamp units.
Far from a one-trick pony, Grampians are things of wonder for anyone who loves rich harmonic distortion, and they have a myriad of uses in the studio – see our main Grampian pages and previous Grampian blog post for more on these machines. From Lee Scratch Perry to Pete Townshend of the Who, these unprepossessing grey boxes are responsible for a great deal of historic sonic mayhem.
Recapped, a new custom power supply fitted (can be switched for use on 120/240v), plus jack sockets will be switched to conventional quarter inch – the originals are short “B” type sockets.
The face is clean. The printing on it is lighter than usual but this seems to be the case with some of them. Knobs have wear – if you want us to fit some new ones (black ones that are close to the originals on other units) then let us know. Case has wear from being previously racked – we will do what we can to tidy this up before shipping. Front cover is missing. Please see photos or get in touch if you require more information on condition.
Switchable voltage for use anywhere in the world - it will be set up ready for you to use before we ship.
For sales in UK the price will include 20% VAT. Buyers elsewhere may incur VAT or other local taxes on import.
