How do Soundgas Auctions work? (short version!)

If you are familiar with the principles of online auctions, then our auctions follow a similar principle. You register to bid, place your maximum proxy bid and the system will bid for you up to your maximum.

One important thing to note is that some auctions may have Bid Extensions added. This will be noted on the items and it means that if a bid is placed in the final 5 minutes of the auction, the end time will be extended for a further 5 minutes (more detailed info about this below).

If you bid, you are making a commitment to pay, so please make sure you understand the item description before bidding. Once you win the auction, you’ll receive an invoice for payment. Shipping is separate and will be charged at our standard rates with combined shipping available.

REGISTERING TO BID

You simply have to create an account on our site (unless you already have one). When you register to bid, you are agreeing to make payment if you win, so please do not bid unless you understand this. All usual data protection applies and we won’t use your details for anything other than communicating with you about your transactions with us.

BIDDING

You place your maximum bid amount and the site will automatically bid for you up to your maximum. You can increase your maximum at a later stage if you wish.

We reserve the right to cancel auctions at any time. We may also cancel bids if we believe they have not been placed with the intention of paying for the item (of course we will try to get in contact with the bidder first).

NOTE: Auctions will be extended if there are new bids within five minutes of the end time. Read more about how Bid Extensions and Overtime work.

And, because it’s worth repeating, if you bid you are committing to buy the item if you win. Please read this page and the item description carefully!

CANCELLING A BID

Once a bid is placed, it cannot be cancelled except by contacting us. If you have made a bid in error please get in touch. Note that this needs to be done a minimum of 24 hours before an auction ends.

BID EXTENSIONS / OVERTIME

In common with some other auction sites (and in-person auctions generally) our auctions will be extended if a bid is placed close to the end time. For most auctions, if a bid is placed within five minutes of the end of the countdown an additional five minutes will be added to the clock – for high value items the time period may be longer as stated in the item description. More detail below.

PAYMENT

You will receive an email with payment details, including shipping after the auction closes. If payment (or notice of payment) is not received within 48 hours, we reserve the right to cancel your order and offer to the second highest bidder or relist.

TAX

Many (but not all) items have 20% VAT for buyers in the UK/EU – this will be detailed in the listing.

IMPORTANT: Your bids are EXCLUDING TAX. The final price you have to pay will have the tax added on. 

If you are a non-UK EU business and wish to purchase without VAT we can arrange this once the auction is complete. Please get in touch with your VAT details.

SHIPPING

Shipping will be charged at our standard rates. We will give some example rates in the listing, but if your territory isn’t shown and you need to know the exact charge please get in touch.

Shipping will be combined for multiple purchases, and can also be combined with non-auction items bought from us.

WHEN DO I GET MY STUFF?

We will pack and ship as quickly as possible following payment. This should be within three working days of payment. We will let you know if there is a delay for any reason, and you will receive a tracking number once your item(s) are booked for shipment.

RETURNS OR PROBLEMS WITH AN ORDER

Returns within the EU are possible within 14 days at the buyer’s expense for a refund less shipping costs.

If there is an issue such as shipping damage or the item otherwise not as described please get in touch and we will find a quick solution.

IS THERE ANY WARRANTY OR GUARANTEE?

No, unless otherwise stated in the listing.

IS IT ELECTRICALLY SAFE?

If an item has mains power, it will have undergone a basic safety test. If it fails, this will be clearly stated in the listing and the power cable will be removed.

All electrical items sold are deemed to be trade sales. No warranty of electrical safety is given or implied. Many items are vintage and would not pass current electrical safety standards. It is the responsibility of the buyer to ensure that items are safe to use in their future environment – if necessary by using the services of a professional.

IS IT WORKING?

This will be clearly detailed in the listing: if an item is described as ‘clearance’ or ‘for parts or not working’, it should be deemed to be non-working. Some items may be partially working – details should be in the listing. If in doubt, please ask.
