Very rare – the earliest incarnation of what we all know as the mighty RE-201. Serviced & guaranteed with a new tape transport and low-use heads installed. Can be supplied set up for 120 or 240v.
We’re tape and disc echo specialists with many years’ experience working with and restoring these machines. Our BBC-trained engineer brings our tape delays up to (or better than) factory spec and our testing ensures machines that have superb reliability and – most important – that they sound incredible. Description
NOTE: This item is awaiting service and will ship within 10 working days of purchase. Price includes the fitting of a new 120 or 240v transformer (synth is currently 100v). This also includes replacing the Sony endless tape with a standard Roland tape tray.
Modified by us with the tape transport from an RE-201. Most of the 200s used the now almost impossible to find Sony endless tape. In addition we added a “fresh” set of low-use heads to bring the sound up to a standard that matches the looks of the machine. And then as a purely cosmetic tweak we added one of our clear tape tray covers – it looks pretty spectacular (but we can of course supply a normal tape cover if required). Sounds superb – that’s those replacement heads, plus early preamps…
Aside from looks, in terms of sound and functioning the RE-200 is essentially identical to an early RE-201. The one difference is the presence of a standby switch on the 200 which allows you to turn off the tape while still passing signal through the machine (and using the reverb).
Sounds superb; excellent working order following a full service by our tape echo specialist with various new parts as required, including new tape.
REPLACEMENT TAPES: We’ve written a bit about our journeys in tape, which replacement loops to use in your Roland echo (not to mention the misinformation and poor quality tapes that seem to fill the internet). We don’t have tape stock currently, but you can buy tried and tested replacement Roland tape loops from Echo Fix. These are the only tapes We may also have a very limited supply of sealed original NOS RT1-L tapes – see our store or get in touch.
There are currently no operational issues with this machine, but please be aware that these units require looking after and that regular use and maintenance are key to keeping this in good working order.
Some crackle is always possible from pots/switches when not used for a while – this can be cleared with use.
Condition
In excellent condition with minimal wear to the face, although there is some yellowing around the silver sections. The tolex is very clean with only very minor scuffing. Internally, this unit is very good with some minor oxidation. See photos for more information on cosmetic condition.
Voltage Information
The voltage of this unit will be set up to your requirements with a new transformer fitted - either 120v or 240v. This means that the unit will ship within 10 days of purchase (please ask if you need it sooner and we will do our best!).
