Description

Altec 1591 A Compressor (and mic preamp) for sale.

Simple to use opto-compressor with wonderful tone. Mic and Line inputs summed to mono output. Around 90dB of gain!

A chance to pick one of these up that has been gone through here by our head tech “Dr” Huw who has many year’s experience with these and knows how they should sound. Supplied with our standard 3 months warranty.

This came to us modified as detailed below, however none of this affects the sound – in fact it sounds much better after a recap and proper set up, plus as an added bonus it is also now safe (it was very dangerous when it arrived…).

MOD DETAILS:

Front:
  • Added Mic/Line switch (between the knobs)
  • Compression Knob is now a pot rather than stepped switch
  • Switch next to it does nothing/very little. It is wired into the compression pot so most likely it replicates one of the steps, however it could also be ideal if you need a “DFA” switch… 🙂
Rear:
  • Big transformer is original. Mounting plate almost certainly because this uses the same chassis as the valve version which had a bigger transformer.
  • RH Socket was for the mic transformer. This has been mounted inside.

 

Condition

In very good cosmetic condition with usual signs of age and wear. One knob is missing the cap. Please see photos or get in touch if you require more information on condition.

Voltage Information

120v model. For UK/EU buyers it will be supplied with a high quality voltage transformer.

Tax

For sales in UK the price will include 20% VAT. Buyers elsewhere may incur VAT or other local taxes on import.
