Stunning compact Tweed console: overhauled and maintained to a high standard. Exceptional quality from a company founded by ex Neve employees.
A very rare opportunity to obtain a fully working Tweed console. See below for detailed information from the seller. Can be viewed/auditioned in West London.
INFORMATION FROM THE SELLER:
Up for sale, the famous Tweed Audio console from Kore Studios, West London. One of only a handful of these beautiful desks still in service in the world. The Tweed Company was formed in the 1970s by ex-employees of Neve. As a result Tweed consoles share many of the same design characteristics as their famous cousins.
This desk is the embodiment of a golden age in audio electronics. No two Tweed desks are ever the same. This model was originally commissioned for Radio Forth in Scotland. It was purchased by Kore Studios 10 years ago and we believe we are its 3rd owner. The console was refurbished on receipt by renowned tech Pierre Oliver Margerand (POM). He expended considerable time and effort recapping and cleaning all the input modules, the buss amplifiers and also serviced the large external psu.
The configuration of this desk is highly flexible:
Left hand side:
8 x 515 (Mic/line Modules) with 3 band eq. These are extra special as they were fitted with Marinair transformers. Similar Tweeds of the same period featured Sowter transformers. The high and low bands are shelving, with a parametric mid band. The last two modules (7/8) are mic input only but have an a/ b path, so that you can audition two different mics on them. For line level use we favour the Avedis Audio Linepad (not included) to show these inputs a sensible level at mixdown.
Sound wise these modules have that instant ‘larger than life’ transformer sound. The low end is deep and full. The midrange and top-end has a beautiful, buttery smoothness to it. You can hear a comparison of the c515 to a Neve 1081 at the following link:
One regular client at the studio was so enamoured with the sound of these modules that they requested to use them in our A room downstairs. Bearing in mind the A room had a 32 channel Api console and a number of vintage Neve channels, this was quite the endorsement! As a result we had POM build us a special 8 way rack to allow for this. This rack will be included in the sale.
The routing modules below feature 4 mono aux sends and 4 buss assign switches. The mix buss architecture of the console is very flexible. The desk has 4 groups: 1 & 2 and 3 & 4. Groups 1 & 2 have an insert point and are then cascaded into Groups 3 & 4. This allows groups 3 & 4 to function as a post mix buss attenuation fader. You can drive the mix buss and its insert to get a beautiful colour and then attenuate this with a separate output stage, so as not to overload your 2 track print.
The desk was designed for Radio broadcast, so the centre section offers a desk surface in front of the Monitor bucket. This provides the perfect space a for a large Monitor screen, a keyboard and a mouse. Many visiting clients at Kore bring in their laptop, set it down in this section and connect a single cable to our interface. They are then ready to mix / record straight away, right in the sweet spot. The days of having your DAW screen off to the side will be long forgotten with this desk.
The centre section features four large VU meters with assignable selection. All the metering functions perform as expected and can be relied upon for accurate presentation of levels.
The monitor bucket features a very detailed and comprehensive set of eye lid selector switches. Because these switches can become unreliable over time , we took the decision to circumvent this section all together. We have always used the desk with an outboard monitor controller. The desk’s accompanying patch bay provides a number of different points at which to tap its outputs, so this always seemed to be the purest and simplest way of configuring the monitoring. I have no doubt that, with some TLC, the monitor bucket could be restored to full health should any buyer wish to use it.
This section features 6 very nice stereo inputs, including gain trim, filters and L/R balance pots. The first two pairs also have very nice hi / lo shelving eqs on them. There are an additional two mono fx return line inputs. This gives the desk a total of 22 line inputs at Mix down.
At the far end of the desk are a number of input channels that were heavily configured for broadcast use. Like the monitor bucket, we have never found a use for these. They do appear on the patch bay, so no doubt they could be put to use if the buyer so wished.
Additional Items Included:
Console PSU / Original GPO patch bay in metallic wheeled rack / A variety of GPO patch cables and looms.
We will be very sad to let this incredible console go but studio B is about to be reconfigured and the desk will no longer be used to its fullest abilities. Anyone who purchases it will be have a beautiful 70’s console, with a removable set of input channels, at a fraction of the cost of its famous cousin whose name begins with “N”.
The console will be in use right up until the point of sale. Serious parties are welcome to audition it in situ at our West London premises.

"Soundgas offer a great service, sourcing esoteric gear that works great."
Grabbed a Roland RE-201 (early edition killer pre-amp) and Roland DC-50. Absolutely STUNNING. These guys truly live up to the hype. They are meticulous in caring for the gear. Also, I have a few guitar pedal and plug-in emulations of tape-echo sounds and after plugging in the real unit I can't tell you how insane the difference is. It is incredible. Especially that tone from the early pre-amp! I am totally amazed. I am in heaven :) They made it safely to Nashville from the UK and were packed really really well! Thank you so much!! Worth every penny.
"The packing job to get it over to the US was superb, and the sound and performance of my Space Echo exceeds all of my expectations. I hope to do business with Soundgas again in the future. Many thanks!”
"DREAM. COME. TRUE. My music has taken me around the world a few times...and if you are like me and absolutely adore vintage gear...Soundgas is the stuff of LEGENDS. It's the shop that people like us search for our whole lives- fantastic and rare selections, and the technical know-how to repair and or mod these vintage items to get them into shape to flow with your modern setup."
Purchased a Juno-60 and it works beautifully. Having gotten one teched before, I knew it was worth paying a premium to get it future proofed and Soundgas does just that. Shipped professionally from the UK to USA. Appreciate their expertise and professional demeanor!
Fantastic. From initial contact to the product landing at my door the service provided was outstanding. Safe and secure shipping, quality serviced product.
"Just received my Roland RS 505 Paraphonic! Thanks so much - arrived very promptly, well packaged, in great condition and sounds amazing! Best seller."
"Packed with love and care. A stampede couldn't have crushed this thing. Works great and sounds like a dream. I love you Soundgas."
As good as it gets. Tony, Dec and team have been incredible, prompt communication, great advice and outstanding service. It really felt like my Polysix came from a loving home.
“Imagine the perfect eBay.... with everything you never knew you wanted… and you can rest assured that your vintage and rare wobbly sound device will turn up on time and in one piece and possibly in even better condition that when it left the workshop. Soundgas - literally amazing."
“The Space Echo made its way to me - it looks and sounds beyond dreams, thanks guys for your great service and communication.”
“I’ve bought a number of items from Soundgas recently, and have been really impressed with their service. It takes the stress out of buying vintage gear to know it’s been properly (and faithfully) serviced or restored. Their after-sales service has also been exemplary. Highly recommended.”
"Finally, a company that tracks down all those brilliant curiosities that bring so much character and personality to a studio."
"Soundgas provided the absolutely top service in terms of item quality as well as service and communication. Shipping was fast, packing was top notch. These people deserve the best reputation they already have. Many many thanks, guys."
"Excellent equipment, wonderful service. I fully recommend Soundgas to anyone in the vintage gear market and I will definitely be a return customer. The gear itself was exactly as advertised and in great condition."
I have been buying vintage stuff for a long time from resellers/stores/techs. I've never been so surprised and pleased after opening! Just received a Roland RE-201 and VX55 mixer, they look and sound amazing! Thanks to Tony/Declan for the service and the Soundgas team will be back!
"When you are spending big money of vintage gear it's nice to have the confidence of impeccable service, sales and support... some of the best in the industry! Impeccable people, incredible equipment… my poor poor fiancé"
“The perfect place to hear, learn about and then buy your most wanted piece of vintage music gear! I've not only managed to buy a rare piece of equipment I really wanted, but I have the guarantee it's been serviced, and I got it from people who are clearly passionate and knowledgeable about what they do, as well as super friendly and responsive by email. Thoroughly recommended!”
"Still in shock! Can not believe how good the seller is. This product was inspected, and shipped from the UK to the USA quicker than orders from my home state. Highly recommend these guys."
“I have bought two Moog synths from Soundgas over the past year, and I cannot say enough wonderful things about their selection of vintage products, the level of service, diligent responses to email, and expedient shipping with copious protective packaging. Soundgas is an impressive operation. My synths also sound amazing! These folks have made my vintage keyboard dreams come true in short order!”
“I purchased a completely overhauled vintage valve Binson Echorec 2 T7E modified with varispeed, wet-only output, and a new paint job from Soundgas in early 2018. Tony and his team did an amazing job during every step of the purchase”
"Soundgas has an unbelievable selection of the cool, old stuff that’s hard to find. Tony knows his stuff and goes out of his way to make sure the transaction is a smooth one. Thanks guys!"
“If you are a vintage audio gear head then this is the place you have been looking for all your life. Pretty much any piece of classic or obscure kit that you are after is available here... But the clincher for me is that the gear they sell has been restored by their top techs (unless otherwise noted) which is really very important when dealing with, for example, synths from 30 years ago.”
“If not a new language, then at least a very challenging, old dialect that will take me some time to assimilate. I’ve been waiting a long time for the challenge. Thank you @soundgasltd, she’s a beaut...and nobody prepares and packs like you fine folks.”
