Simple Japanese poetry trainer with three traditional sounds and digital sequencer and data cassette!
This is one of those things I saw and thought we had to check out for sheer oddity value: an early Japanese poetry trainer with data cassette for storing sequences made by the same company who later produced the ST-50/60/100 etc.⠀
⠀
Originally made for Japanese traditional music and dating from around 1980, the cassette deck is for data – whether it could be modified for audio/tape loop use or not we cannot say… It has a digital sequencer and inbuilt speaker.⠀
⠀
It is monophonic with two rows of white square buttons for a keyboard. Just like the Suiko ST-50 this is designed to easily play in a koto-style manner. The japanese scaling means it sounds exotic from the off. It has a choice of three basic sounds: shakuhachi (japanese bamboo flute), koto (japanese harp) and pipe organ. The sounds are warm and evocative. Switches and knobs for tuning, sustain, volume, memory controls, etc. rear panel has the audio output socket. You can either store sequences in the internal memory or cassette and play back from either.
Overall good condition. Tested and seems to be working, but not all features checked. Please see photos or get in touch if you require more information on condition.
100v Japanese model - it will run on North American mains 115/120v without a transformer (we run all our tests using 120v power); however, a step-down transformer is recommended for extended use. A step-down transformer is required in the UK/EU. We do not recommend using cheap generic Chinese mains transformers and can supply a high quality UK-made unit if required.
For sales in UK the price will include 20% VAT. Buyers elsewhere may incur VAT or other local taxes on import.
We can't stop here, this is bat country! Our next auction (November 22nd) features some head-turning, show-stopping synths, however we also wanted to put the spotlight...
