Very highly regarded and hard to find valve/tube preamp from the 1950s. UTC transformers.

Serviced and working well however we are waiting for a new VU meter to arrive. Shipping estimate is 2-3 weeks from purchase.

Description

Gates Valve/Tube M-3689 Remote Control Amplifier for sale. This unit is based on the Gates SA-134 Amplifier

Freshly serviced to our high standard and with warranty. XLR tail added to the input terminals on the front.

We are sourcing a new replacement VU meter (at a cost of about £150 for the part) and it will ship once that’s fitted. We will be able to use the original faceplate for the meter so it should look almost identical.

Made in the USA in the early 1950s during the same era as the likes of the Sta Level Compressors. Sounds wonderful – this is the first time we’ve had one of these rare units through, but we can see why they are highly regarded among Gates aficionados. UTC input and output transformers were the Gates standard at this time.

Condition

Good with normal signs of age for equipment of this era. See photos for more information.

Voltage Information

117/120v model. A step-down transformer is required in the UK/EU. We do not recommend using cheap generic Chinese mains transformers and can supply a high quality UK-made unit if required.
