You only have to plug it in to understand why they became so popular – the addition of a touch of modulation (chorus or vibrato) to the delay makes for the warmest tones – that warm analogue sound that is so seductive.

From subtle slapback to shimmery showers of cascading echoes, this pedal really does live up to the hype. Alternatively you can ramp up the Chorus and for that queasy ‘seasick’ Boards Of Canada effect.

Those who regularly check our listings will be aware that we’re certified delay-addicts with a massive collection tape/disc/bbd rack units, echo boxes and pedals. If you’ve not tried one before, the Deluxe Memory Man is a revelation: direct into the desk it’s reminiscent of a good valve echo, but with a far wider sonic palette; put it into a valve amp and boy does it sound good. This is a very inspiring pedal – just makes you want to play and create – an absolute joy.
