Description

From Darkglass Electronics:

A prehistoric creature, terror of the seas during the first geologic era who was unexpectedly frozen and buried in the depth of tectonic plates. Thought disappeared for millions years, after an oddity on the Earth’s surface gave to this cephalopod a new arise.

Sporting the superb art of Ignacio Bazan Lazcano, the Microtubes B7K Ultra V2 Aux-The SQUID combines all new engraving techniques along with Darkglass Electronics’ latest technology, making this pedal look and feel like no Darkglass pedal ever before.

The SQUID will be available in a limited quantity of just 1000 pieces worldwide.

FEATURES
  • Limited Edition – unique artwork from Ignacio Bazan Lazcano
  • Microtubes dynamic saturation circuit
  • Separate Bypass and Distortion foot-switches – allows use of Distortion and EQ independently
  • 4 Band EQ with 6 selectable mid frequencies
  • 3.5 mm Aux in and Headphone connections – allows jamming with backing tracks
  • Balanced XLR output with ground lift and switchable IR cabinet simulation
  • Connect to your PC/Mac to load different Virtual Cabinets (one at a time) via USB and free ‘Darkglass Suite’ software
  • Tough metal housing
  • Powered by 9 V DC PSU (centre -, 2.1 mm, ~ 120 mA current draw)

With the same Darkglass powerful Microtubes dynamic saturation circuit from the B3K V2 and B7K V2, the Ultra version adds a four-band equalizer and a dedicated foot switch to engage the overdrive section independently. Master volume controls the overall unit level, while a three-way toggle switch gives even more control for each mid-range section.

With a total of 6 different mid frequencies at your disposal, the pedal allows you to create and tailor your tone to perfection. Add in the IR section and XLR, headphone and Aux connections and you have the perfect all in one device. From a crisp, punchy clean preamp to obliterating high gain distortion and everything in between, the Microtubes B7K Ultra V2 Aux is a universal tone crafting machine.

Designed for both studio and live use, Microtubes B7K Ultra V2 Aux-The SQUID will take your direct sound to a whole new level.

Knobs
  • Master: Whereas the Level Knob controls the output of the overdrive section the Master volume adjusts the overall volume of the unit. Ideal for fine tuning the output on clean mode. It also serves as a DI level control.
  • Blend: Mixes the clean input signal with the overdriven signal. The clean signal remains at unity gain while the volume of the overdriven signal is set by the Level knob, allowing for fine control of the blend ratio.
  • Level: Sets the volume of the overdriven signal.
  • Drive: Sets the amount of saturation in the overdriven signal.
  • Bass: +-12dB @ 100Hz
    Lo Mids: +-12dB switchable 250Hz, 500Hz and 1kHz
    Hi Mids: +-12dB switchable 750Hz, 1.5KHz and 3kHz
    Treble: +-12dB @ 5kHz

Switches

  • Attack Switch: Sets the amount of treble content to saturate: The “Boost” setting emphasizes the treble content extra clarity and presence. The “Flat” position leaves this register untouched while the “Cut” position will reduce the amount of high frequencies being saturated.
  • Grunt Switch: Sets the amount of low frequency content to saturate by selecting between three different bass boost levels before the clipping stage.
  • Ground lift: Disconnects the signal ground on the Direct Output to break any ground loops. Set this switch to either position that has less noise. The switch does not affect the ¼” output.
  • Cab Sim: Toggle the cabinet simulation on/off on the Direct Output. This switch completely bypasses all digital circuits and allows you to get a zero latency signal when needed. In/Outs:

  • Direct Ouput: Balanced XLR output for connecting the pedal to a microphone preamp, PA system etc.
  • Headphones: B7K Ultra has an internal stereo headphone amplifier capable of driving a minimum load of 16 ohms from the 3.5mm stereo jack. Use the Master volume control to adjust the level.
  • USB: A Micro USB B connector allows you to connect the pedal to PC/Mac to load cabinet simulation impulse responses to the pedal and control various other settings.
  • Aux In: This 3.5mm stereo input allows you to practice with backing tracks from e.g. your smartphone or laptop. Auxiliary input can only be used with the headphone output. The pedal does not control the level, it must be set from your audio source. Remember to always first set the level low before connecting anything to the aux in!

Dimenisons: 125x96x57 mm (4,92×3,77×2,24 in)

WARNING: When the pedal is on bypass the master volume does not affect the headphone volume. In this case the total volume is adjustable in Darkglass Suite. With sensitive headphones, the bypass volume can be very loud if not adjusted.

The Microtubes B7K Ultra v2 Aux In “The Squid” Limited Edition has a current draw of 120mA. Only use a regulated 9V DC adapter with a center-negative plug. Due to ecological reasons, it does not accept batteries. Unregulated power supplies and/or higher voltages may result in suboptimal noise performance and even damage your unit, voiding the warranty.

TESTIMONIALS

As good as it gets. Tony, Dec and team have been incredible, prompt communication, great advice and outstanding service. It really felt like my Polysix came from a loving home.

Matthew Herbert

Grabbed a Roland RE-201 (early edition killer pre-amp) and Roland DC-50. Absolutely STUNNING. These guys truly live up to the hype. They are meticulous in caring for the gear. Also, I have a few guitar pedal and plug-in emulations of tape-echo sounds and after plugging in the real unit I can't tell you how insane the difference is. It is incredible. Especially that tone from the early pre-amp! I am totally amazed. I am in heaven :) They made it safely to Nashville from the UK and were packed really really well! Thank you so much!! Worth every penny.

But the clincher for me is that the gear they sell has been restored by their top techs (unless otherwise noted) which is really very important when dealing with, for example, synths from 30 years ago.”
