Chilton QM3 - 24-8-2 Mixing console - ex-BBC

Stunning vintage console upgraded with Carnhill transformers. In full working order (but see the note below about mods) after a final check over and work from our in-house engineer.

One of two of these consoles we currently have available. They are in not identical – both are up for sale but when one sells the other will be kept for our studio.

NOTE: the missing knobs will be replaced before shipping.

This desk is originally ex-BBC and is in superb operating condition; it sounds fabulous and is a joy to use. The faders were originally reversed for BBC use but have been flipped for studio operation.

These desks are very well-made with quality components and feature excellent mic pres, musical eq and hi/lo filters on every channel, good metering, intuitive grouping and four auxes per channel.

The previous owner had it serviced by one of the main technicians from Bettermaker company. They upgraded the transformers in 16 mic preamps for Carnhill VTB9045 and the main output transformers for Carnhill VTB9056.

MODIFICATIONS: Note that this desk has been modified and does not have a dedicated monitor section. The mods were for use in an outside broadcast situation where the producer and presenter could remotely select fold-back and comms and were made to integrate with other equipment. Without this equipment (a DK2/21) further mods or returning the desk to stock configuration would be essential for normal studio operation

CONDITION: Excellent for its age. Thoroughly cleaned by us. The wooden case has minor dings and marks only. The missing knobs will be replaced with identical ones before shipping.

There are no known faults with this unit and it comes backed by our guarantee of your complete satisfaction – the desk has had a complete and thorough check over by our in-house tech and various minor issues dealt with to bring it back to full working order. There may be an occasional crackle from the odd switch or pot – nothing serious and as you’d expect with a desk this age – down to infrequent use and if it occurs it should clear with a few switches/turns.

This is a very heavy item and we welcome collection in person. Worldwide shipping possible. We can organise crating and shipping to the USA/Canada – the true cost will be around £1000, but we’re discounting this to £250 to offset import tax costs for US/Canadian buyers. EU customers who are further away from the UK than Germany/France, please contact us for an exact price.
