PRODUCT DESCRIPTION

Stunning-sounding valve (tube) Binson Echorec B2 disc echo in excellent condition and superb working order: serviced, restored and calibrated by our Binson specialist. This one is much brighter-sounding than regular Binsons – we’re still tweaking it to taste. Demo below.

UPDATE: Tony just wrote a demo-heavy guide to choosing between some of the Binson models: Which Binson Echorec?

As certified Binson-obsessives, we’ve restored sold many excellent Echorecs over the past twelve years to very satisfied customers. Over the years we’ve built up a deep understanding of how they should sound and function. In our experience, most Binsons sold as being in working condition (even ones that are sold as serviced or rewired) are not up to scratch. Echorecs require a technician with a rare combination of technological skills: tape/recording, valves, mechanics and electronics.

Want to know more about these machines? Read our Binson pages now.

Bought un-restored from the estate of renowned Binson expert Eric Snowball, this machine has been overhauled and meticulously set up by our tech Huw. After many hours of work and careful final calibration it is sounding amazing – the cleanest-sounding B2 we’ve heard. It’s had a reconditioned drum and NOS heads fitted.

CONDITION: The overall condition is excellent – an superb example of this less-common Binson. The case is very clean with some paint chipping around the edges. One knob is slightly damaged around the rim. The metal lid and serial plate are not present. See photos for more information on cosmetic condition. Note: Photos of this unit were taken without the screws holding the clear lid in place, they will be included.

Switchable voltage.

We guarantee complete satisfaction.

Binson Echorecs are amazingly-engineered machines: where a tape echo’s input sound is recorded to tape, on a Binson it is recorded onto a circular spinning disc which has replay heads positioned around it. It is possible to select single and repeating echoes or reverb-like swells – these units have a sound all of their own. They look fantastic at night (or on a darkened stage) with the magic eye valve glowing green and the backlit plexiglass fascia.

Binsons were one of the must-have pieces of equipment for bands in the early sixties, alongside the Fender Stratocaster and Vox AC30. Famously-used and abused by Barrett, Gilmour, Waters and Wright of Pink Floyd in the 60s and early 70s (Echorec 2s are very much in evidence on Live at Pompeii and can be seen on photos from many Floyd live shows), Binsons are increasingly sought-after today by studios, mix engineers and producers for their unique sound: Michael Brauer (Stones, McCartney, Coldplay) famously has an Echorec 2 in his arsenal of vintage delays.

These machines need regular use and maintenance to remain in good working order.

They are very delicate: minute adjustments are made to the heads’ positions for optimum performance, so it is possible that this machine may need to be calibrated again after shipping (most withstand shipping with careful packing, but the buyer should be prepared to have this done if required).

(Please note: it is always possible with vintage equipment that some crackly pots/sliders may develop over time when equipment has not been used – even during shipping – this can usually be easily rectified either by use or judicious application of suitable switch-cleaning spray.)
