Two demos of this machine when originally sold are below (plus other machines further down) – new demos of this machine to follow.
Restoration with varispeed and wet-only output mod (on output 3) performed by our echo tech, Dr Huw. This machine features a Super-Slow Varispeed Motor with the advantage of being able to tempo match the repeats (Binsons were originally fixed speed machines). The super-slow varispeed motor option offers the full functionality of regular speed uses, but with additional super-slow speeds for longer, darker, dirtier repeats. This can get properly gnarly when pushed into distortion at slow speed – it should be noted that at the slowest speeds very little fidelity or feedback happens – this is more for special effects rather than regular echo use.
The Super-Slow Varispeed Motor offers the full functionality of a standard Binson but with the advantage of being able to tempo match the repeats. Binsons have fixed-speed motors which will run fast in the USA (unless they are specific export models) due to the different mains frequency, which is something Pink Floyd discovered on the eve of their first US tour. The tempo of their songs was determined by the Echorecs’ repeat patterns so their tech spent a sleepless night moving all the heads to compensate. In addition to allowing tempo-matching to the song, and longer echoes (now allowing a Baby Binson to achieve similar echo lengths to an Echorec 2), the super-slow motor offers the option of much longer, darker, dirtier repeats. This can get properly gnarly when pushed into distortion at slow speed. Please note that at the very slowest speeds there is very little fidelity or feedback: this should be viewed as a bonus for special effects use rather than more traditional guitar echoes. A control knob is placed on the side of the machine near the sockets for motor speed.
Wet-only output added to channel 3 for use with a mixing console (or effects loop) if required.
In exceptional cosmetic condition; this unit shows only very minor wear and signs of age. It still has the original carry case (not pictured) that is slightly damaged around the hinges and seams (we will repair it, but is is only suitable for display purposes). The case is made of chipboard and is not robust enough to withstand shipping by courier with the unit inside (hence previous damage).
Switchable voltage for use anywhere in the world - it will be set up ready for you to use before we ship.
For sales in UK this item is on the margin scheme for second hand goods.
The first two demos (808 and 303) are of this machine when originally sold. Fresh demos to follow.
The others feature previous machines we have sold, and include a great guitar video from when Dan from That Pedal Show visited the studio to try out some Echorecs.
Binson Echorecs have been our obsession for many years. They are amazingly engineered machines: where a tape echo’s input sound is recorded to tape, with a Binson it is recorded onto a circular spinning drum which has replay heads positioned around it.
Every Echorec we sell is the result of many hours spent dismantling, rebuilding, calibrating, listening, tweaking. The distance between a “good” Binson and a truly “great” one may appear to be short in purely functional terms (how many times do we hear of a Binson that is “nearly there, just needs a little extra calibration to be perfect…”); but they are a world apart in terms of the time, patience and experience required to make them function and sounds as good as is possible.
