A Soundgas favourite that needs no introduction to anyone familiar with our site or social media feeds (but there’s some info below if you need it). We’ve had some difficulties with servicing due to our main Binson engineer being out of action for some time, so have been investigating alternative options. As a result, we’ve been able to offer very few machines for sale in recent months – we couldn’t release any until we were satisfied that they matched our usual standard. The good news is we are close to having extra techs on hand to service/restore our Binsons and more machines will be available soon. We also hope to be able to offer Binson servicing for our customers once again.
Until then, here’s a fine machine – fully-serviced and sympathetically-restored to a high standard. While we usually convert all inputs/outputs to 1/4″ jack sockets and the power socket to an IEC, this one has been left as original as possible (one input/output has been changed to 1/4″ jack for convenience).
Following some further tweaking and testing by Tony, this machine more than meets our expectations of what a good Echorec 2 should sound like. In fact according to Tony, it’s one of the better-sounding machines we’ve had – it overdrives superbly and the repeats are clear and well-defined, degenerating into that glorious Binson self-oscillation when Swell Length control is turned up. Hear (and see) it in action here in the Instagram videos below – it’s being used to add delay and overdrive to a simple synth patch – the quality of the overdrive is one of the reasons we love these valve Binsons so much.
Switchable voltage for use anywhere in the world - it will be set up ready for you to use before we ship.
Binson Echorecs have been our obsession for many years. They are amazingly engineered machines: where a tape echo’s input sound is recorded to tape, on a Binson it is recorded onto a circular spinning disc which has replay heads positioned around it.
Every Echorec we sell is the product of an accumulation of hundreds of hours spent dismantling, rebuilding, tweaking and listening to them. The distance between a “good” Binson and a truly “great” one may only be short in terms of functioning (how many people tell us they’ve got a Binson from somewhere that is “90% there…”); but in our experience they can be a world apart in terms of the time, patience and experience required to get to that ultimate goal.
