Another in the range of Ace Tone 60s beatboxes and this one sounds particularly good. Serviced and working well. See below for Instagram demo of this unit in action.
Ace Tone Rhythm Aces were the direct ancestors of the mighty Roland TR series of drum machines. You might be forgiven for thinking that all the “FR” range of Ace Tone boxes are basically the same machine in a different case, but this is not the case – the circuits are undoubtedly very similar but different components can mean they don’t all sound alike (the use of different components may have been driven by nothing more than what was available at the time of course). Certainly this one sounds different to many other examples we’ve had. It’s very clear and punchy with some real bite to the claves and tom sounds.
The range of rhythms isn’t exactly huge but you can generate some interesting combinations and jam along with the usual multiple button presses and the variation selector knob.
For sale serviced and working well.
Condition of this machine is excellent for its age with only very minor signs of age. The face is very clean with only a few small dings. The wood is also excellent with the usual minor dings to the corners. Please see photos for more info.

Bubbling… This was supposed to be a post showing how good the little Ace Tone FR-6 beatbox sounds, but the Teisco BBD delay was just sitting there needing a test and became something of a distraction. Great combo though – the clean, crisp sound of the FR-6 (see our last post for info about this unit) and the analogue wobbles of the Teisco SR-403E. Ace Tone is on the site, come direct for the Teisco. Roland PA-150 mixer providing strong support. ~~~ #beats #acetone #fr6 #drummachine #teisco #bbd #analogdelay #dub #vintagegear #geartalk #recordingstudio #soundgas
