Appears to be unused. Probably came from a store as it came with the original hang tag (included in the sale - very cool - see photo!). The forerunner of the Roland TR-77 to which it is very similar, this is another great-sounding Ace Tone drum machine.

The forerunner of the Roland TR-77 to which it is very similar, this is another great-sounding Ace Tone drum machine. It nails those classic, “woody”, full-bodied early analogue drum sounds.
Separate volume control for four different sounds and the ability to stack both the “Latin” rhythms and the “2-Beat/4-Beat” variations on top of the other rhythms give plenty of potential for jamming with this machine.
Ace Tone was started by Ikutaro Kakehashi who went on to found the mighty Roland Corporation. The build quality and attention to detail is generally great – these machines were built to last.
Exceptional cosmetic condition. The face is superb with only very minor scuffing around the edges. The woodwork is also very clean with minimal scuffing around the sides. See photos for more information on cosmetic condition.
For sales in UK/EU the price will include 20% VAT. VAT-free sales are possible to businesses and individuals in the EU (outside the UK) with a valid VAT Number - please get in touch if you wish to buy this way.
100v Japanese model - it will run fine on North American mains 115/120v without a transformer (we run all our tests using 120v power); however, a step-down transformer is recommended for extended use. A step-down transformer is required in the UK/EU. We do not recommend using cheap generic Chinese mains transformers and can supply a high quality UK-made unit if required.
The actual unit for sale is the one used in both of these Instagram posts

Pair of Ace Tone FR-8L beat boxes now ready and looking for new homes. Not listed yet so message for details. Both are in pretty remarkable condition for their age, but the top one had clearly come from a store and had never been used. Once we tracked down the faulty caps in the noise circuit it came back to life. Not bad for the best part of 50 years on a shelf. . Fostex 3180 stereo spring is for sale on the site now. . Ace Tone is the forerunner of Roland - dating from the 60s and into the early 70s. The sounds have a distinctive "woody" tone, and these later models are very flexible with access to variations, combinations of 3 or even 4 patterns, and separate volume controls for different sounds.

Messing about A/B testing two eras of Roland percussion. Which do you prefer? Top: 1970s Roland TR-55 or Bottom: 1960s Ace Tone FR-8L . Recorded some bits separately, some running together (out of time, like a drunken hippy drum circle😀). Conclusion? They may share a lot in looks, but the difference in sound is pretty radical. The Ace Tone FR-8L on the bottom sounds much more artificial and primitive; the Roland kick is definitely fuller, and the sounds are generally more natural and organic. We like them both as each brings a distinctive flavour. That raw Ace Tone will be pretty brutal through some effects... Both available for sale - TR-55 only just arrived so come direct.
