from 22 reviewsFieldtone continue to knock it out of the park! I was lucky enough to snag a 'Box Of Uncertainty' recently, and absolutely loved the insanity of that particular device.
This wondrous device is a different take on a sampling theme, and provides endlessly useful results, even after the source material is beautifully mangled.
Bravo Fieldtone, you've done it again!
As a tool for creating random rhythms this wins hands down with a unique take on trad looper pedals. That you can then flip this device on its head for textures and filmic interludes that can evolve under their own steam or be taken on a journey with a turn of a knob elevates it even further. Plugging in Ciat Lombarde gear or in fact any gear opens up new possibilities. As a rich source for samples and just plain weirdness from v little original sounds get into it this is a game changer.
This is analogue chorus at its very best and delivers those shimmering 80s chorus tones in spades. The rate and depth controls allow you to create a huge range of sounds, all of which remain usable and familiar. The resonance and wave shaper controls broaden this sonic palette considerably without ever slipping into special effects territory. There is useful visual feedback on the speed of the modulation which also adds a classy look to the unit. The pedal is happy with line level signals and the vibrato button removes the unprocessed signal from the output meaning that it could find a productive home in your studio as well as on your pedal board. If you’re looking for those classic chorus tones then this modern take on the classics BBD unit, which comes with a warranty and is built like a tank, will get them for you in a package that should withstand the rigours of the road better than a 40 year old vintage box.
This is an excellent high quality bit of kit. Although by no means the cheapest, you’d frankly be mad to plug in your vintage Japanese gear into anything else.
Quite simply the easiest way to add new tones to your vintage synth collection, this device rocks, rolls and modulates its way into your heart. Whether you’re adding an extra LFO to Moog model D or interfacing with studio effects that take CV input this device puts you right where you want to be. The control is precise, variable and full of unexpected delights. This box lets you coax previously unimagined delights from your existing gear. The most cost effective studio upgrade you’ll do this year. Buy one!
awesome. i thought i was buying something different but this is way better. its like having sly & robbie come by.
I bought this for a Stax electrostatic headphone energizer which I imported from Japan. The model I bought cannot be modified to UK voltage (without ordering a new mains transformer at great expense). The Airlink 100VA step down works faultlessly. Utterly silent and no physical hum or vibration.
This is an extraordinary machine that offers a very different sound palette and means of manipulating sound to composers/musicians. Thoroughly enjoyed my journey with it so far and it is likely to become an essential part of my live music set up.
The music world needs more devices like this to enable musicians to develop their own musical voice and means of expression.
Great service from Soundgas, always a pleasure to work with. Fantastic to have the T80sRC back in the rack after a misguided gear purge a couple of years back!
I bought the TE KO-1320 this time, after previously purchasing the KO-130 several months ago. Even though this one has many similarities with the original, it offers a wide range of new performative and sonic options that make it well worth the price. As with most pieces from TE, it offers unique performative options that you don't find elsewhere. At first I though TR was trolling with this, but now that I have it, I absolutely love what is coming from it. If you are looking for an unusual yet highly useful and versatile sampler/instrument, this is it.
I still have the amp and the from panel with the loudspeaker:)
What a fun and idiosyncratic device. There is nothing like the Box of Uncertainty out there. For one thing, the operation manual is only one page long, which makes for instant playability right out of the box. The sound quality is also quite rich. I haven’t yet found the need to process it through FX pedals.
The BOU even looks magical. Rather than having a typical manufactured feel, it’s nestled in a lovely wooden enclosure with fancy joinery, with whimsical names and artwork.
All I can say is that if my music studio ever caught fire, the BOU is what I’d rescue first. Hugh Jones, who manufactures each unit by hand, is a fantastic guy, who’s made himself available to cheerfully answer any questions I’ve had. Plus you get Soundgas as an additional resource. I live in the U.S. and they’re more responsive and knowledgeable than anywhere on these shores.
An excellent and wonderful machine, backed by a store that definitely goes the extra mile, especially when you live thousands of miles away.
You can’t go wrong with Tony or Sandy. The store is kind of like a strange museum, packed with one-of-a-kind products.
This is my new secret weapon for classic rock “not metal” tone
A fabulous handmade machine. Looks the part and sounds wonderful. Feed it what you like and it spits out haunted soundscapes. Recommended
Great build quality, sounds fantastic. The direct on/off function is a great addition, EQ and drive works great and generally sounds a lot bigger and more lush than you’d expect from it’s relatively small size. Sounds a million times better than my on board Two Rock amp’s spring reverb too.

“I purchased a completely overhauled vintage valve Binson Echorec 2 T7E modified with varispeed, wet-only output, and a new paint job from Soundgas in early 2018. Tony and his team did an amazing job during every step of the purchase”

“If you are a vintage audio gear head then this is the place you have been looking for all your life. Pretty much any piece of classic or obscure kit that you are after is available here... But the clincher for me is that the gear they sell has been restored by their top techs (unless otherwise noted) which is really very important when dealing with, for example, synths from 30 years ago.”

“I’ve bought a number of items from Soundgas recently, and have been really impressed with their service. It takes the stress out of buying vintage gear to know it’s been properly (and faithfully) serviced or restored. Their after-sales service has also been exemplary. Highly recommended.”
