The Soundgas Type 636P represents many hours’ work over a number of years, distilling down the sound of the Grampian Type 636 mic preamp circuit and capturing it in a pedal or countertop box. It looks simple, but that hides the deep knowledge and zero-compromise approach that has gone into producing this. Ultimately it’s all about the germanium though: finding exactly the right NOS transistors and then surrounding them with the components needed to make them truly sing. It’s also very, VERY loud.
